United States Arsenal FC
From Dugout-Online Wiki
United States Arsenal FC is an English football club. Founded in 2005, it is one of the oldest and highest-rated clubs in England. Its manager is USArsnl. The club, commonly known as US Arsenal, or the "Yanks" is based in North London. Home matches are played at the 19,000 capacity Constitution Ground.
[edit] History
US Arsenal can trace its history back to December of 2005. The club's first match was a 0-1 away win to now-defunct FC Pleb on Saturday, December 17, 2005. Several players who played in that first match would later become famous. Stanford Sackville, Brendon Rey, and Merlin Kersey would each go on to make over 100 appearances for the club, while Kersey and Lucian Bell would go on to represent England internationally.
Before competitive competition, US Arsenal made shockwaves around the D-O world when the club purchased Romanian striker Vali Zmeu from FC Prazilia for the then world record transfer fee of £1.000.000, the first million figure sum in the history of the game. Zmeu would go on to become club captain and set several club scoring records.
A strong showing in the pre-season tournaments saw the club placed in the English Premiership for the first season, where the club has remained ever since, one of only a handful of clubs to do so. In the first season, the club contested the first ever English National Cup, losing in the final minutes.
Despite showing early promise, the club has never won any silverware, and has gained a reputation for under-performing.
